Is this a peri symptom do people know?

much less energy in latter two weeks of cycle plus slightly lower mood. Already have histamine issues (I believe linked to changing hormones) and very forgetful including of words. Aged 44

Definitely sounds familiar to me also the histamine and forgetfulness

Griselinia · 08/04/2026 17:47

Less energy and lower mood is pretty standard second half of cycle for me and always has been.
It's significant/a probable symptom for you if it's different/worse than ever.
My definitely (peri)menopausal friends tell me often about the word forgetting being something new for them and therefore a probable symptom.

Thank you both. Yes @Griselinia the lower mood and fatigue has always been there for me too but is definitely getting much worse

maybe it’s time for HRT

Yes this was me pre HRT, I was ‘only’ 42 so thought I was imagining it but basically 5 days before period felt exhausted. Also around ovulation not so good for 2/3 days too. Anyway I’m now on HRT, it’s better but not brilliant but at least I know the cause. The energy at end of cycle has improved and normally now I have just one extremely tired days. Other days im ok. Around ovulation I have a few days feeling pretty shattered still. Still tweaking my dose etc, go to GP and ask for oestrogen levels checked around late luteal phase.

Thank you @popsickle555 thats really helpful and also interesting to me that your ovulation days are similarly tiring as I’ve definitely noticed that too 😢

I’m on HRT, and I get this severely in the days before my periods to the extent that I get home from work and go almost immediately to sleep. I feel woozy with fatigue by the end of the day and for a person who is usually a chronic insomniac (life long) this is unusual.
Im interested in your histamine issues? What so you mean when you say this please? As I’ve just started to suffer with severe hay fever and other allergies for the first time in my life-is that yet another meno thing?

Uncertain111 · 12/04/2026 18:24

@piscofrisco so I’ve learned (think from a podcast but then I followed up with a bit more research) that oestrogen stimulates histamine release (so we have allergies) but this is usually tempered by progesterone which counteracts this and limits it. But in peri our progesterone levels are dropping hence more histamine in our system - and more allergy issues.
