Hello,

I have a drs appointment booked to discuss concerns I have - potentially perimenopausal.
However, as with so many female health complaints I don’t have high hopes that I won’t be fobbed off, so I’m hoping for some lived experience advice, please?

I am on day 19 of a period. It’s been heavy and consistent throughout with exception of one day in middle where it appeared to dry up a little, but then continued. It’s more watery but with stringy clots mixed with 5p sized clots.

If you experienced this, were you given any treatment, blood tests. I’m just hoping for some support to help me when I undoubtedly need to advocate for myself. I am feeling drained AF with it now.

I am usually a 28 day normal cycle type. Aged 40. Sore boobs, night sweats.

Tia

You will most likely be offered the Mirena coil, which is standard for this, or if you want something to reduce the flow, Tranexamic acid(tablets) taken when your period starts.

Maybe have a read up on the Mirena and go in prepared to ask for it or discuss other options?

There is a lot of medical info online about treating heavy periods including the NHS website.

Also have your iron /ferritin checked for anaemia in case you need iron tablets.
