I am really struggling at the moment and I cant take HRT for health reasons. Has anyone been treated by someone for both? Or are there any natural products that have helped?

Bump

PlainSkyr · 10/03/2026 21:25

I have tried mushroom gummies and they ‘seem’ to help

Redhairandhottubs · 10/03/2026 21:54

What syomptoms are you struggling with? I take lionsmane for mood and focus and glucosamine for joint pain.

Aberdeeneagle · 10/03/2026 22:52

I have no motivation (even less then normal!), don't want to see anyone and feel foggy headed ish. When driving I don't feel quite with it - it is like looking through glass, if that makes sense. I used to be really on the ball but now forget things and feel flat. However, not depressed.

It’s fucking awful. I’m losing all function.

MrsBennetsPoorNervesAreBack · 10/03/2026 22:55

It is a very difficult combination, OP. I don't have any suggestions but much sympathy.

Aberdeeneagle · 10/03/2026 22:58

Thank you for responses. It is really annoying that I cant take HRT!

Can you take testosterone?

Aberdeeneagle · 10/03/2026 23:02

I could try again. It didn't agree with me before but I have made changes and it might now. Would it help with motivation?

OP posts:
somekindof · 10/03/2026 23:03

Hrt doesn’t help with the brain fog, adhd multiplication elements. I am on hrt, helps with hot flushes but not my struggles which are v similar to what you describe .
I realise this isn’t a helpful suggestion but just to let you know that you aren’t missing out on a magic potion.
I’ve heard that testosterone might help
with this aspect but am unable to figure out how to navigate getting that through my go because my brain doesn’t work

Aberdeeneagle · 10/03/2026 23:07

I see a private Dr for progesterone, so could get testosterone through her. I am so bored of dealing with all this - it is never ending!

NedsAtomicWheelieBin · 11/03/2026 00:37

Are you on meds for your ADHD? I'm on atomoxetine (non-stimulant) and that's really helped with my ADHD brain issues, so might help with brain fog. Other than that - try visiting Holland and Barratt - apparently their staff are now trained in menopause supplements.

Are you taking progesterone only?
I didn't know that was a thing

I'm not on anything yet, but it does all seem very overwhelming

I take high dose vitamin B complex and I really notice the difference if I don't take it - I'd have very bad brain fog without it

Give Lionsmane a go, it might help with the bran fog. I think it helps me focus. I have ADHD and can’t take HRT either, the progesterone makes me feel awful.

Undiagnosed but pretty sure I have ADHD. The Lionsmane seems to help me with focus and my mood is more stable. I also take high dose vitamin D and B12 injections, so not sure if the improved mood is down to that or the Lionsmane, but Lionsmane def helps with focus. I really notice it if I forget to take it.

Testosterone basically is the motivation hormone so yes, there’s a good chance it could help.

Aberdeeneagle · 11/03/2026 22:29

I have taken progesterone for 15 years as I am estrogen dominant - just not anymore!
Lions mane sounds great as does trying testosterone again.
Thank you everyone.

yeah it's like strangely coasting and looking out of the window of a cross-channel ferry when you had to get there by coach at 4.45 am and you are on a school trip and the sandwiches are tainted by over-ripe bananas in the same box and sea spray is flecking the scratched perspex of the portholes and you are like wtf is going on here ... weird drifting is what I'd call it. And I'd be more than happy mostly to just waft around, cry a bit, spend ages doing my hair, and have a lot of sex, hugs, physical contact. Skin to skin is really the cure for all of this, I find.

Obviously none of the above is really compatible with normal functioning adult life in 21st Century Britain. Unless ... one joins the creator revolution and focuses on sex, etc. Then it might be possible to recline on a velvet cushion most of the time and still make a stack of cash haha. Maybe this is where we need to be turning our talents, ladies : )

I'm actually not being funny here, thinking of it - I mean, although Bonnie Blue's model of operation wouldn't be my choice in any way, we have to admit she does have VERY shiny skin and hair. So something of what she's doing must be somehow healthy. I'd prefer single estate rather than the 'product of more than one country/continent/origin' etc. that is her source, but I do think that something men make on demand is very good for us. I may be totally slated for this, but ............ I feel it is a little bit the elixir of life. Basically I'd rather be perked up by that than HRT. And it does perk me up, is v energy-giving and helps me focus. It feels very good for me and just what my body needs.

I'm not trying to be facetious. I really understand the drifting. It's good we are talking about it. Thank you.

Aberdeeneagle · 11/03/2026 22:39

Yep, it's exactly like that!

ohhh - I hadn't read that before I posted what I just wrote, but maybe THAT's why a natural source of pure testosterone maybe feels so good!! So it's not just me! It's a scientifically endorsed help, and can be bought over the counter. I'd still rather have it fresh than dried, though.

Sorry, am I right in thinking you believe you’re getting testosterone from having sex in a way that is comparable to/better than HRT? That is definitely not what the science says. Even if you’re having sex at Bonnie Blue (gag) levels of frequency.

She has shiny skin and hair because she’s 26, not because she performs stunt-sex.

I have shiny skin and hair too. I put it down to sex, yes. And swimming.

Obviously i was being mildly tongue in cheek, but you've prompted me to start a bit of research ... eg:

In this paper I hypothesize that a woman through her vagina absorbs sufficient quantities of the prostaglandins from her partner's semen, to affect her mood. The vagina appears to have an active transport mechanism which readily absorbs the hormones found in seminal plasma. The seminal secretions include estrogens, F.S.H., LH, testosterone, and at least 13 prostaglandins. Prostaglandins have a modulating effect on neurotransmitters. ... If these observations and deductions are correct, regular amounts of seminal plasma may be important in maintaining a woman's affective health ...

  • ah so maybe it's the prostoglandins?
LarryStylinson · 12/03/2026 00:52

Gabapentin and paroxetine can be useful for menopause symptoms for non HRT folk.
ADHD meds might need upping if youre struggling too

I had that looking through glass feeling - dry eye - check for that. Also if very tired check thyroid too. My thyroid didn’t play well with the swinging estrogen and the tiredness made me feel like I was living in a snow globe. Such an odd feeling.
