im 49 I’ve been suffering with peri symptoms for a good four years.
I exercise most days , eat well, only drink booze at the weekends.
i do have a good gp and they have been good at trying different meds etc but everything takes so long and im still not where I want to be with my symptoms.
weight gain, moods, aches & pains etc etc
just wanted to ask about anyone’s experience with private menopause drs. Has anyone been to see an endocrine specialist ?
has anyone had success with unlocking the secret to making themselves feel better , losing weight and regaining their spark ??
im just so fed up

I'm not sure what's happened, but have you actually asked for HRT?
Are you on HRT?
If not, why not?

Yes. Have been trying different combos to the last 2 years or so
I do have a coil but have tried patches, spray for the arm, different gels and now on an oral tablet

Have you had the dose adjusted? Usually in peri you need more than older women.

Seeing someone privately won't mean any different types of HRT (my HRT is private.)

It just means you can have a longer chat and if necessary they can prescribe off-licence with doses etc.

Would you consider having the coil removed? Some women find it gives side effects and are better off on cyclical progesterone of some sort.

That’s what I want to happen. I feel my weight gain started when I had that fitted ( a few months before I started HRT) I don’t need it for contraception. I’m still bleeding with it in.

with your private consultations , did you feel they explored options after better/wider testing? I would like to know if it’s ’just ‘ menopause or things like Thyroid, cortisol, endocrine issues. Both of which run in both sides of my family.

Your GP could run a routine blood test.

If you want the coil removed can you ask for that to be done?

I have asked but there always seems to be some reason why it should stay.
I’m due to go back soon so will reiterate what I want.
would GP run tests for anything more than the standard thyroid /general blood work ? I need to have another conversation with GP

Surely it's your choice? Just say you want it out.

If there is a family history of thyroid issues they should offer that.

I'm not sure that any full blood test will show anything you need to know, it is more about removing the mirena and seeing how you get on with another type of progesterone.

Thanks. I’ll go back and ask again. It’s very frustrating as I said my GP is sympathetic but I feel isn’t addressing a big factor that will be contributing to it.
