Early menopause?

Hi, I’m just looking for a bit of advice really. I’ve recently been experiencing horrendous night sweats, for around 2 months now. About a month in I went to my GP, who ran bloods and a chest xray. Everything came back clear. Since then, she’s referred me to the rapid diagnostic clinic to rule out cancer, and I’m due to go for a CT scan next week for this.

My question is, could this be early menopause? I’m 29, and the more I look into it, the more it makes a lot more sense than cancer. I’m on the PoP so I don’t have periods, although I can have the odd spotting. My mood is pretty erratic at the minute, I feel so low sometimes it’s awful. I’ve also just started to get what looks like acne around my jaw line, which is often linked to hormonal changes. When I raised this with my GP she completely ruled it out, but could it be this? I’m naturally worried sick about being on the cancer pathway so any advice is welcomed.

xx

These were my symptoms but I am about 8 years older than you. I have been told it’s menopause. Ask for your hormones to be checked - they will need to do this multiple times at different points of your cycle to see what things look like. Are you on any type of protection that has hormones like the Coil or pill?

@IAmTheFloorCleaner I’m on the progesterone only pill, so my periods don’t really happen.

I would ask your GP whether you can have some hormone tests but they need to do more than one as your cycle changes even if you don’t have periods. Have a look at the menopause matters website and see if anything fits.

I'd suggest you look at the site The Daisy Network.
It's a charity for women with POI, run by doctors. There is info there and pointers to what you might need to do for a diagnosis etc.

Your GP is wrong to rule it out as it affects 1:1000 women. (premature menopause.)

Supporting women with Premature Ovarian Insufficiency

More than 1% of women under 40 go through early menopause. Daisy Network is a charity offering information, advice and support. Make contact with other members, chat to specialist doctors online and receive news, videos and fact sheets.

Thank you for this, I’ve never heard of this so it’s really helpful. I’m thinking once the CT is done and hopefully all is clear, to go back to my GP and ask for other things to be explored. The night sweats are killing me.

It might be worth coming off the pill to see if that helps. Artificial hormones can do some very odd things to you. You would also find out if you are still having periods. Xxx
