Mirena and HRT

Could possibly be a silly question and google is not really helping and the wait to speak to a gp is long at our surgery.

so I’ve had the Mirena for almost 6 months now due to heavy periods, all good so far as in they are almost non existent now. There has been a quick discussion on possibly starting HRT also.

my question is does starting HRT affect your periods. I am keen to try it due to some other issue I think are all related to perimenopause but I am still struggling with very low iron due to past periods and I can’t face going back to how my periods were but then I can’t continue with how my body feels now 😩

does anybody have any experience of starting HRT months after the Mirena?

Yes, I've had a Mirena for many years, successfully. And then added in Evorel 25 patches in the last couple of years to help with menopausal symptoms. I only had very light periods very occasionally with the Mirena anyway, and I have none with the oestrogen patches, though not sure whether that is full menopause or the patches. I am 53. I have good control of the menopause symptoms which were mild hot flushes, brain fog, and anxiety (middle of night/early morning panicky feeling). Skin is good, joints hurt less. I've also lost a lot of weight which will have helped the symptoms. I feel good. Good luck!

I’m 53 and have been applying gel since 2019. I had a merina coil fitted in April. I haven’t had a period since the coil was fitted. I had very heavy periods before the coil. You could start on one pump and then build up gradually. I find the gel and coil a good combination for me.

I have the mirena and use oestrogel, started both at the same time, never had another period (had only scant sporadic periods before that).

Exactly the same for me.

Had mirena coils since late 2018, was prescribed Evereol 25 patches for early peri menopause 10 or so days ago. I’ve already noticed improvement in symptoms however day or so before patch change there’s a marked increase in crankiness as well as fatigue.

I have to get my mirena replaced ASAP so I can stop taking the progesterone tablets.

I am on my 2nd mirena coil had first fitted in 2020 due to very heavy long periods, 2nd fitted 2025. I started oestrogen patches about 2023. They had no impact on my non existent periods I have been experiencing since getting mirena fitted
