Progesterone triggering periods

Hi, I started HRT (Evorel Conti) about 7 months ago after having no periods for approx. 6 months. I’m 47. Since staring HRT, I’ve started having quite heavy periods again. What I’m finding strange is that the period happens a few days after I start taking the progesterone, rather than when it is withdrawn. Is this normal? Also, I have recently switched to a body identical form of progesterone, however, I am still getting periods at the same timing I.e. a few days after starting the progesterone tablets.

That’s normal. That’s the point of sequential progesterone i.e. to trigger a monthly bleed.

I understand that sequential HRT should cause a monthly bleed. However my question was if the monthly bleed should be triggered by the start of the progesterone though? My understanding is that it is the withdrawal of progesterone that triggers the bleed. Hence the term “withdrawal bleed”.

The issue is that I’m having a period triggered on what should be day 16/17 of my cycle.

If you don't want to bleed there are multiple other options - nobody has to put up with any kind of vaginal bleeding whether menstrual or iatrogenic, unless they want to.

I take the combined pill continuously and don't bleed at all. Most women can get this from their GP until the age of 50.

If this isn't for you there is the IUS, or a stronger oral progestin alongside your estrogen of choice.

Edited

I’ve got the same issue, and was also on the understanding that the bleed should / usually happen once you go back to oestrogen patch in the 8 patch cycle

My bleeds are now all over the place; this month they were two weeks apart, before that 5 weeks, i suspect it’s a combo of the hrt working then occasionally my own hormones / eggs kick in giving me extra bleeds

I was checked out last year with no issues, and I can’t tolerate the mirena or birth control, and i’m not old enough for continuous hrt
