Brain fog, articulacy

Hi, I'm 49 and whilst still having regular periods, I'm been experiencing symptoms of perimenopause including tiredness, anxiety and depression. One of the hardest things for me in terms of my job is brain fog and how much I struggle to be articulate. I really struggle to find the words I want to use when speaking. Sometimes I use the wrong words completely. I've just started hrt which im hoping will help. I've also read that magnesium L-threonate supplements can help. Has anyone tried them and if so, are there any recommended brands? Alternatively has anyone found anything else that has helped? Thank you.

Have you had your vitamin D and B12 checked? I mistook those symptoms for menopause, but I was deficient in both and it has got better with treatment.

HRT should help but not overnight.

Fluffypompoms · 11/02/2026 17:33

Hello, thanks for your replies. @BoredZelda no I haven't had them checked but I'll ask if I can have them checked. @JinglingSpringbells I hope so, I just started it on Saturday so very early days.

Omega 3 fish oil helped my brain fog . It feels liked its oiled the cogs. I'm on hrt too.

I’m on HRT and I get this too. I just ordered Omega 3 to try. Luckily my colleagues are women of the same age so we are all finishing sentences for each other!

Thank you - I'll try that. My cogs definitely needed oiling! @giddyboo can I ask what brand you take and the dose please? @Mamamia35 it must be nice to work with people who can relate. I feel quite alone at work. My colleagues all sound so articulate compared to me. I also struggle to focus on one thing at a time and am constantly distracted.

Maybe it’s not you, maybe it’s the build up of years and years of daily stressors.
The human mind and body isn’t meant to sprint like it’s 20 for over 30 years.
Popping pills will help if you do have a deficiency, but also have a look at your overall schedule and how demanding a life you lead. Now might be a good time to outsource some of the demands and make your life easier or less stressful.

PoloMedicine · 13/02/2026 20:33

What dose has your doctor prescribed? You might need to check it’s enough and gradually increase to ensure you are getting what you need.
You may also need testosterone but it’s not always straightforward to obtain on the NHS.
The menopause doctor site has lots of info which might be helpful.
Don’t worry you can come back from this! I did.

I’ve been taking Creatine for the past six weeks and this has really made a noticeable difference.

my daughter wanted to try it for building muscle, but when I read into it, it had benefits for brain fog too.

Im taking a daily tablet with the lowest dose. No side effects and I can concentrate so much better.

(I am on 3xoestrogel, untrogestan, and testosterone every other day) all the HRT helped but the creatine has been the biggest impact.

Vitamins can really help, it’s surprising. B complex and D for me.

I use what evers on offer at the time in Holland and Barrett or boots. The high dose ones with a good write up. The cheaper ones apparently aren't very good and can go rancid.
