HRT Patches

I’ve recently started HRT patches and am getting on well with them. The only downside is that the edges of the patch collect fluff from my clothes and have a permanent black mark round the edge. Wanting to go swimming but this puts me off! The patch is changed twice a week but within just a few hours it looks grubby. Any suggestions or solutions please?

nail varnish remover on a cotton pad and rubbed over the area worked for me!

Wear them under your knickers. Tummy, hips and bottom.

You can buy adhesive remover, or use acetone. Or just scrub hard with a flannel.

They say that baby oil or similar works.
i sometimes scrape them off with my fingernail in the shower but then the bits stick to the shower tray and leave black marks that you have to clean off.
TBH, I'm not bothered by the gunge!

I wear mine just under the top edge of my knickers so would be covered with a swimming costume. It also stops the edges lifting when I pull on trousers.
To get rid of the mark when I’ve changed them I rub Vaseline over the area.

Baby oil on a cotton wool ball works well. Just make sure you stick them where your swimming costume will cover them.

I've just moved to Lenzetto spray from the patches. It's going well so far.

It's not like the gel that takes ages to dry. It's dry really quickly. When I was on the patches, I just picked at the bits in the shower.

Another advocate here of baby oil

Helpless25 · 05/02/2026 17:06

I have no problem getting it off when I remove the patch, I use Avon SSS dry oil spray. It’s the mark round the edges while I’m wearing it that’s the issue. I have to wear the patch on my thighs so it’ll be on show when wearing a swimming costume.

This, baby oil definitely works

Why do you have to wear them on your thighs?
I wear mine on my hip.

Sidge · 05/02/2026 19:54

You don’t have to wear them on your thighs - they can go anywhere below the belly button.

KungFuDancing · 05/02/2026 21:05

When you take the patch off use the edges to rub against the black sticky bit left on your skin, it rubs away much more easily.

I wear mine on my hip on the inside so normally hidden in swimwear. Also use Estradot which is tiny.

Where are you getting Estradot? In the UK the SSP has been extended AGAIN, to 30th April.

I get them privately but only the 75 are in stock so I cut them in half. They have been available to me since July. Told my friend who goes via NHS and she managed to get some?

Oh right. I wish they’d hurry up and get production up to speed

Delatron · 06/02/2026 16:12

Do you have the option of getting the 75 and adding/ chopping up?

I love Estradot did not get in well with Evorel at all! Hope all the supplies are back to normal soon.

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 06/02/2026 16:28

Is there a reason you have to put the patch on your thigh OP? I wear mine on my lower tummy (and I know a lot of people wear them on their bum cheek!)

As an aside I'm in Ireland and Estradot patches have been unavailable for what seems like forever at this stage. For the past few months I have been getting Vivelle patches and they are fantastic - almost identical to Estradot IMO so for anyone struggling with Evorel etc. its worth enquiring if you can get them.
