Bouts of diarrhoea at night - is this a symptom?

I’m 47 and definitely in the throes of the perimenopause now as my periods so far this year are coming two weeks apart, thankfully a lot lighter though. I’ve been on HRT for two years. I have noticed that in the last 6 months changes to my bowel habits, which wake me up at night. About two or three times a week I’ll wake in the early hours of the morning, usually 3 or 4am with a strong urge to go. I’ll get back in bed and need to go 15 minutes later. It’s not a normal bowel movement but diarrhoea, but there’s no blood and I’m not losing weight (the opposite in fact!).

I should point out that I am on Laxido on prescription since I had my DS 12 years ago due to a prolapse and constipation from also being on prescribed cocodamol. I also have an anxiety disorder. I’m thinking of stopping the Laxido for a few days to see if it improves things,

I’ve just had a blood test after seeing my GP about the frequent bleeding on HRT and have a follow up appointment with her next week to discuss the results.

Could hormones be causing this? I feel like the perimenopause is really kicking in now and it’s hard to cope with the exhaustion from not only the insomnia but also the early morning toilet visits.

It needs discussing with your GP.

If you are deep in peri potentially the loss of hormones is changing the way your prolapse affects you.

But lots of things need ruling out.

It’s possible for hormones and meds to affect your gut that’s for sure. I’d have that checked out though x
