Tips on how to stop patch peeling off/coming off (also going for a swim)

ILOVECHOCOLATEPISTACHIOS · 24/01/2026 10:26

Hi,
Anyone got any tips on how to stop their patch coming off? one folded over last week and I had to change it, I am noticing this next one is starting to peel. I am wondering if adding surgical tape around it would help? anyone done this? or anything else to keep it in place. Also any tips around swimming as I want to do this next week but I am worried it will peel off.

I am on Evorel 50 change twice a week Monday and Thursday (although I am actually starting to feel like I want to change it after 3 days as it is so dry when I take it off not sure I'm getting the full benefit of continuous absorption)

Thanks

My dr advised to warm the patch first, so tuck in bra before putting it on. I also dont use any lotion where putting it. I try to do it after a shower, so im warm too, I'm a cold person so it all helps. .fairly new to it, 3 months in, and have had long baths/been swimming no problem.

ILOVECHOCOLATEPISTACHIOS · 24/01/2026 10:47

Thanks @Seaside3 I haven't tried warming it 1st I will give that a go....i'm about 3months in too 😄I started off ok but I think this new box the packaging was different I threw the other one away so can't be 100% sure but it did look different so wondering if its poorer quality.....I will give the warming it up 1st a go and hopefully that will make a difference .....

OMG I just Googled it and apparently there is a difference.....Hmmm I am starting to wonder if the Estradot is different to Evorel in terms of stickiness (I think the Estradot was sticking better) i,ll ask at the Pharmacy ....

Although tbh my pharmacist is a real grumpy moo (deadpan no smile, no warmth).....i'll wait until the nice lady who works there is on duty........

I will try the warming 1st too though
Thank you 😄

Get a roll of Opsite dressing wide enough to completely cover the patch. Then just cut a piece off the roll and stick over each new patch .

I found only Estradot stuck properly and they have been hard/impossible to get for ages. Tape around the edges didn't work either.

Eventually I switched to spray.

Surgical tape does help if you need it. I have Evorel and similar to a pp, I make sure I don't have any lotion on and rub my skin with a flannel / towel before applying to make sure there's no residue

I've also found that where I place it makes a difference. I always stick them on my outside hip, under where my knickers are. If it's too low or near the seam, they tend to lose their stick / come off easier.

I've never had an issue with swimming, apart from a couple of times when they were coming loose anyway. I have had a couple of boxes where the patches didn't seem to stick well or last the full 3-4 days and think that it was a manufacturing error.

Tattoo covers

I use these in the summer when I find the patches don’t stick as well, or for swimming; they work really well.

I changed to gel in the end as I do a lot of swimming and they just weren’t staying on

embolass · 24/01/2026 11:21

Use bar soap and scrub glove to wash where u stick it. Shower gels leave coating. Ive been on Evorel for years and they are stuck fast, never had any issues. And as above no lotions etc. I place right in middle of bot cheek , so covered by pants and not likely to catch pant line etc.

ILOVECHOCOLATEPISTACHIOS · 24/01/2026 13:29

Hey everyone, thank you all for your replies really helpful. I am going to try to get Estradot again as I didn't have any issues with these at all, but I do like the waterproof bandage link @SydneyCarton too so this could be an added option to keep them on.
The only reason i'm not keen on the gel is because of my cat (read some stories on another website - think menopause matters forum not sure) saying about transference and pets becoming sick.....however I guess I can lock the bathroom until I am dry and dressed(and wear gloves) so this might also be an option @Octavia64 (how long do you have to wait for the gel to dry out of interest?
Thanks for the tip @embolass re bar soap.....yes Estradot becoming a nightmare to get hold of @AnnaMagnani so that is interesting you switched to spray it sounds like you find it just as effective.......
It could be a blip/manufacturing error @LittleMy77
Thanks everyone 😃

Just get the spray?!? It’s much simpler to use and you don’t have to worry about any of this

Itsnotallbadreally · 24/01/2026 14:04

I bought swim suits with the longer leg so the patch stays under the swim suit and no longer have any issues.

ILOVECHOCOLATEPISTACHIOS · 24/01/2026 14:24

Ah I like that idea of a swimsuit with a longer leg @Itsnotallbadreally thanks....im not against the spray @Nearly50omg I might give it a go if I can't go back to estradot but I like convenience of a patch (well I did until it started peeling off) 😃

Tegaderm!! No patch of mine has moved since I started using them months ago. You can cut them in half. Absolutely fantastic. Available on Amazon or in Boots. Totally waterproof, truly answered my prayers when I was at my wits end with the ever moving patch issue.

FrothyCothy · 24/01/2026 15:07

tegaderm would do the trick

Octavia64 · 24/01/2026 15:10

The gel dries in 5 mins.

I do Duolingo while I wait

EvelynBeatrice · 24/01/2026 15:11

Alcohol / antiseptic wipe over skin prior to attachment. Then hairdryer on low over patch.

Algoquick · 24/01/2026 15:12

You aren’t supposed to apply Evorel patches after warm shower/bath as mentioned above. It should be applied to clean, dry cool skin.

But it’s the fact they come off when you shower/ bathe, that’s the issue ..,.

Again, Tegaderm.

ProseccoStormtrooper · 24/01/2026 17:27

Where do you put it? I’ve tried various places but it stays on best on my buttocks.

ILOVECHOCOLATEPISTACHIOS · 24/01/2026 20:58

Hey everyone thanks for all the replies...it sounds like Tegaderm is the missing piece of the jigsaw puzzle 😃I will certainly get some @LilyBunch25 thanks...
I love that you do duolingo whilst the gel is drying @Octavia64 great idea 😃I put the patches on my bottom @ProseccoStormtrooper most of the time (alternating) but have also put them on my hips....currently on my hip (and peeling) but agree the bottom seems to be the best location

Thanks @EvelynBeatrice re the tip regarding alcohol/antiseptic wipe 1st, I will do this

OMG I love the swimsuit @Itsnotallbadreally I need one, absolutely going to order one of these thank you!! 😃
