Is this a hot flush?

Twice now in as many weeks I have woken up after only a couple of hours sleep - not sweating but so unbelievable hot that I'm convinced that the heating is on max. Of course it isn't, it's turned off at night and would only kick in if the temp hit 14 degrees (never happened)

I had a short sleeved pj top & pj bottoms - I had to jump out of bed and take my trousers off as I thought I was going to combust. It took me so long to get back to sleep

I'm 45 but have been told I'm far more likely to go into menopause early due to my IVF treatment for poor quality eggs (told this my a gynaecologist)

has anyone else experienced hot flushes like this?

I'm 45 as well and I get this but only occasionally so far, once every few weeks.

Sounds like menopausal night sweats, yes. The hot flushes I (still) get during the day start in my midriff and spread upwards like when you get a dose of burning embarassment and go all red.

Might be worth asking for a referral to have your hormone levels checked anyway.

Sage tablets have helped me with night sweats.

Sounds like it. I also had them post partum for a year.
The feeling that you are about to combust and that rolling naked in some snow would be wonderful. I had them occasionally at first and later many times a day and night.

My hot flushes started at 51, I never sweated, but got extremely hot that as soon as it woke me up, I had to throw duvet off, mainly top half of my body and face red due to hear, they just came out of nowhere.

Yep, sounds very much like nighttime hot flushes to me. This is exactly what mine are like. We keep the house fairly cool at night as both myself and my DH prefer that to being hot at night. However, I was still waking up feeling roasting hot and having to kick all the covers off. Not sweating as such but feeling stiflingly warm and couldn't cool down. Its a bit like I can't regulate my own temperature. Its a feeling of being hot like nothing I had quite experienced before. Its very uncomfortable and stopped me sleeping until I started taking Menopace supplements which stopped them completely.

I know they work because I ran out over Xmas and went almost a week before getting more and they came back with a vengeance. Got back on them and taking them for a few days and it has all stopped again, thank god. I will make sure never to be without them again because I didn't sleep for nights on end when I ran out because of the hot night flushes/sweats.

Yes still getting these, been going through this for ten years at least. Feels like you are too hot all over, even without sweating. I started young with this too.

Belladog1 · 22/01/2026 15:54

It sounds like it. Hot flushes were my main symptom. I'd have an odd one at night, then it changed. They would start around 9pm until 2am. Then this extended from 4pm all night long. I was averaging 3hrs sleep.

I went on HRT and I'm sleeping through the night again.

LorenzoCalzone · 22/01/2026 17:13

Yep. This became unbearable for me so I went to get HRT. They stopped within 2 weeks of combined hrt

if you get the horrible “feeling of impending doom” followed shortly after by intense heat spreading from your chest to your face, then congratulations - you’re definitely in the Menopause. GrinConfused

NeverDropYourMooncup · 22/01/2026 17:21

Yup.

I've never, ever started sweating, but I have had those sleeping on the radiator sensations. Over time you might get hit with them randomly during the day, worst of all in a heatwave or waiting for a bus in a heatwave, but it is exactly how they started for me.
