When your HRT needs adjusting?

I am 39 and have been experiencing peri symptoms for the last few years. I am on sequential Utrogestan and 50mg estrogen patch.

I feel like it has helped my physical symptoms; but my mental health, especially anxiety, is no better.

I feel somewhat better on the two weeks off Utrogestan but not massively so.

I still don’t feel like myself. I’ve been on in since the summer!

HRT needs tweaking if you still have symptoms. 50mcg is a very low patch for someone your age who would have higher estrogen normally. You could try 75.

If you're only 39 and have had anxiety for a few years might it be a mental health issue rather than peri or have you had a hysterectomy?

Whilst anxiety meds aren't first line for menopausal women as you're so young might it be an idea, or counselling cbt etc? I'd ask your gp for mh guidance tbh.

I have always had anxiety on and off throughout the years but it really came back with a vengeance when the peri symptoms started. My mother and Aunt had gone through menopause by 40.

You're having an early or premature menopause if your periods are all over the place at 39 and have been for years.

Your GP should monitor this and even refer you to a gynaecologist if they can't be more helpful.

HRT needs a review every 3 months to start with then at 6 months or annually, depending.

Go and see your GP and if they can't help ask for a referral.

Yes my last period just hasn’t shown up, three pregnancy tests later (I have the copper coil too!) just to be sure. I’m on day 48 of my cycle now so I don’t think it’s showing up. The cycle before this was 17 days long and before that 11!
