Switching HRT

I was hoping for some advice from others who have been in the same boat. I started on 50 Evorel estrogen patches and 200mg Utrogestan for days 14-28 of cycle, 3 months ago. My reasons for going on HRT were really for anxiety and low mood. I feel worse during the Utrogestan weeks, spaced out, a bit fuzzy and depressed and then heavy bleeding and severe ‘period pains’ once I finish. I don’t want to give up on HRT altogether. I was wondering if anyone else on here has had a similar experience and any advice on how to tweak or change dosage in order to feel better. Many thanks.

I had similar symptoms and have switched to 100mg Utrogestan daily throughout the cycle at the suggestion of my GP. Also have upped my Evorel patch dose. It has really helped to even my moods and symptoms out.

Thanks for your reply. That’s reassuring. Can you go on the 100mg daily if you are still having periods?

I thought you couldn't, but apparently it's a second line option. There apparently might be breakthrough bleeding but I'm still just having (not particularly regular) periods.

@Peggy21 I was like that when I started taking utrogestan but it settled down and I’m fine with it now. Are you taking it 2 hrs after food? It can also be taken for 12 days instead of 14. If you find it dosent settle down there is other progesterone you can take x
