Is this a heavy period

I’m not concerned as such, more intrigued, and from what I’ve read of others’ experiences this is nothing in comparison.

My periods became closer together over the last few years and subsequently seemed shorter…then over the last 6 months or so, I will go a about 7/8 weeks since the start of the last period, then I will have a heavy (for me) one. In my mind it’s like because I’ve gone longer, there’s more to come away though I don’t know if that’s biologically correct. In between these heavy ones I might have one that starts within 23 days (my previous norm) but takes ages to get going and then lasts longer.

Anyway, the last couple of days, I’ve been emptying my mooncup because it was nearly full every 1.5/2 hours and once overnight. I never looked at exactly how much was in it but I’d say at least half to three quarters full most times. If that’s correct that means I’ve probably lost about 200ml (plus the next day’s) which seems extremely excessive.

I know this sounds daft but is it just blood or are there other fluids that add to the volume or am I just calculating wrong?

Yes it is because you're going longer between periods so there is more.
It's worth seeing your GP if it's bothering you because there are treatments, like the Mirena coil or just tablets to take during the bleed (Tranexamic acid which you can buy from a pharmacy too.)

There's a lot of info online about what is a heavy period and it seems to be anything over 80mls in fluid. You may become anaemic if you're losing so much so keep an eye on how you're feeling.

Thank you, Jingling. I don’t feel too bad (I already have ME so it’s hard to tell what’s normal and what might be new sometimes), but I’ll keep an eye on that.

I’m lucky in a way in that I don’t work so I’m at home and am able to manage without any leaking or anything like that. I usually only get 1.5/2 days like that as well and it’s only the 3rd time this has happened. From around midday yesterday it completely slowed down, as I expected from previous times.

I always doubt myself in terms of how much is coming away into the cup because I’ve never really been that conscious of it up until now. I’ll definitely keep a proper record next time though.

I’m considering my HRT options at the minute - am a bit anxious about starting - but will look into everything.
