Achy joints, muscles and sudden tiredness last night

I posted this on the General Health board but am putting it here too, as I'm perimenopausal so am aware it could be hormones especially as I am probably around ovulation in my cycle now, so possibly a lot of the symptoms are to do with this.

Last night in bed. I felt awful. Laying trying to sleep, I suddenly felt achy all over, pain in various parts of my body (muscles, joints and just very fatigued).
These symptoms slightly panicked me but i tried to sleep although this morning after waking, they're still here. Just a general feeling of malaise, with strange aches in various areas and my heart was racing as I got up from lying down.

I've had episodes of panic and anxiety recently that I know are definitely hormones, and I'm always thinking most of my symptoms these days are mostly perimenopausal 😅😳 but I don't want to rule anything else out.

I feel pretty tired and still achy / slightly anxious this morning, so if if is hormones during the end of my period, it would make sense.

I'm not taking any HRT yet.

Any thoughts would be appreciated 😊

Probably a virus I would say

Catisheavyonmylap · 04/01/2026 14:27

It has only been for the one night so at this stage it could be anything or, nothing.

Do you think you could be coming down with a virus? These often make muscles and joints ache in the early stages and often elevate heart rate, which can then make you feel more anxious. Have you been overdoing it recently, not resting enough and possibly over tired and your body is letting you know!

I think if you’re still feeling like this in a week with no improvement then it’s probably time to make an appointment with the GP, but I would just listen to your body at the moment and take it easy.

Probably flu, there’s loads of it going around

I'd say you're coming down with something. I am awake with similar although a fuzzy head has started now too.perfect for first day back at work. :(

CrackSpackle · 05/01/2026 06:09

If it continues and you rule out flu, yeah it’s hormones. I had really bad anxiety particularly upon waking and when trying to fall asleep at night. Aching joints, frozen shoulder. Depression. Constant bladder infections. HRT fixed it all. Ten years on, still on it and feel well. Don’t wait OP. Life’s too short.

Are you about to mention Hormona, the company you’re advertising on other threads, @MaritaHormona?

The sudden onset of symptoms sounds more like flu.

Andtheworldwentwhite · 06/01/2026 17:06

Sounds like the flu. I am on day seven of the flu and it has been awful. Rest up
