Heavy frequent periods - perimenopause?

Hi, I'm 38 and for the last few months after decades of regular manageable periods every 4 weeks I now seem to be on a 2-3 week cycle of incredibly heavy short periods. It's coincided with a period of stress and depression so I wonder if this is the reason (and my GP has said it may be) but I wondered if anyone had had this as symptoms of perimenopause?! Part of me wonders if the stress/ brain fog is actually part of the symptoms rather than the cause.

Yes, my periods became closer and closer together and heavier, I was flooding and just put up with it as I thought it was normal for that age. Then I ended up anaemic, so got a mirena coil. Wish I’d had it years earlier.
Brain fog was a symptom too. And i wasn’t depressed, but I got to where I didn’t want to go anywhere.
As you’re under the magic 45 you might have to ask your GP for a trial of HRT or go private to start.

Yes I had this in peri. Period every 3 weeks and really heavy and painful. Having the mirena coil made the world of difference to me.

I'm 40 and have had heavy periods for the past couple of years, and my cycle has shortened from 28 days to around 21 days. I've also been told I'm anaemic. I've gone private and having a coil fitted in Feb. I am dubious as had a really negative experience with mirena coil in early 2025, it was fitted too low and was agony.

I had the same though I’m in my late 40s, horrific , heavy debilitating periods and I had times of being lightheaded, dizzy and lethargic, I was in bed at 8pm most nights.

eventaully went to the doctor and I was extremely anaemic, doctor couldn’t understand how I was still functioning as my markers were so low.im also on the Prostregen only pill now and I have no periods and feel more like my usual self.

Oh dear - im 53 and I've been having horribly heavy periods for the last year or so. Am I really best off going back on the pill or Mirena?
