How common are longer periods in peri?

Just that really. My last few have lasted around 17 days - in the middle I've thought they were finishing but then started up again until finishing. No bleeding inbetween. Have had a gap of 60 days with no bleeding so assuming it's hormones causing it rather than a polyp or anything, but keen to hear if others have experienced similar. Please share your experiences!

Mine were all over the place during peri-menopause!

Mossstitch · 23/12/2025 17:05

First signs were 10 weeks without one at 43, could then have two almost back to back within 3 weeks until finished at 49🥳

Thanks CutePixieGirl. Did you go to the GP or just assume it was because of peri?

Happened to me. I was relieved when it was all over.

50 now and periods are more regular then they ever were before peri. I used to have up to 40 days between periods, now they're bang on 28. Can't wait to stop.

Mine are all over the place in terms of cycle length. When they do arrive they seem shorter in duration but much heavier.

I’m 52 next month and can’t wait for them to end, although my sister and mother didn’t hit menopause until 60!!

I'm 43. I had v long, frequent periods from 41. Started taking iron supplements (low iron can cause heavy periods) and got diagnosed with non-coeliac gluten sensitivity. Went gluten-free and periods have lasted 3 days, once every 28-30 days since.

Yes definitely, my last one was 3 weeks long.....the joy!

I was 58 when my period finally stopped and I was so glad. I absolutely hated peri menopause, the worst time of my life.

I'd have more periods for far longer than dry spells. Then it all stopped! Wonderful. I sailed through it with none of the attendant problems except long periods - no flushes, sweats or confusion. So glad it was over. Once a month is a ridiculous cycle - twice a year like dogs seems much more comfortable!!!
Seriously if you are concerned, see the GP.
