Bleeding after coil fitted - for 12 weeks??

I had a coil fitted 12 weeks ago. Haven’t had a period since, was still having them before although less regular and shorter. I’m 47. Since having it fitted I seem to be bleeding almost everyday, but it’s not like a period, it’s more like egg white discharge with blood in it, sometimes fresh red, sometimes old brown. Sometimes quite a lot, sometimes little to none. No pain.

I do have a GP appt in the new year to review it, but wondering if this is within ‘normal’.

I had a coil fitted for HRT and had what I’d describe as heavy spotting for about 5 or 6 months. It got to the point where I was referred for an ultrasound scan and investigations and, usual with these things, it stopped as soon as I’d had the scan and there was nothing abnormal found. It was my hormones settling down.

It is worth seeing your GP about it though.

I'm going through this now. Been spotting/light bleeding since August. Turns out that a fibroid had pushed the coil slightly too low - hence the bleeding. Now waiting for a hospital appointment to remove the damn thing.

I was the same. It was the hospital gynae dept who fitted mine .
I was glad I persevered as at about 6 months in it settled.

Mine to months to stop too. I was almost at the point of getting them to remove it when it stopped. Now have v occasional spotting for the odd day or two.

I had mine fitted about 8 weeks ago and having very similar experience. Spotting that’s sometimes more watery sometimes more bloody. Getting fed up with wearing a pad each day tbh, but it seems to be considered within the range of normal for the first 6 months.

I had the same issue & left it the full 6 months before I went back to the GP. Like a pp I had scan & a fibroid had pushed it down & to the side so it wasn’t working. I had it removed & replaced 18 months ago & it’s been fine since. I wish I’d gone back to the GP earlier.

Thank you all, and thank you to whoever reported the comment from midmale55. What qualified him to offer his opinion on what my uterus is doing I’m not quite sure! Made me feel a bit uncomfortable!

Males have done this for hundreds, no thousands of years. What a tool!

i bled constantly for about 16 weeks when I had mine put in andthen nothing until I had it removed like 7 years on (yes I know too long). It was bloody marvellous but I was worried at the beginning.
