Came off HRT - 3rd month of bleeding

In October I stopped HRT (long story but basically only the implant worked for me and I can no longer afford it) and since then I have had continuous heavy bleeding. I regularly flood through two tampons and multiple pads. TMI but often there are large clots on the tampons / in the loo etc.

I have been to the docs and have had blood tests and am waiting for an ultrasound and the results.

Has anyone had this experience? How worried should I be? Should I be pushing the GP more?

The only other side effect I am having is dizziness which started this weekend which may not be connected.

Hi-I have just stopped HRT after 8 weeks as the bleeding has been non stop(while on the HRT)- soaking through tampons and pads- doctor advised it can take up to 6 months to settle- I couldn’t continue like this so I stopped 5 days ago…bleeding has almost stopped and I feel back in control of myself… I too had dizzy spells which I didn’t at the time link with HRT but now you’ve mentioned it it all makes sense!! As well as the bleeding almost stopping so too have the dizzy spells…
I am 53 and for the time being am just going to try and ride it out without HRT…the bleeding, upset stomach and dizzy spells were just too much to put up with !

@ladygin I realise this post is old but did you get any answers? I’m in a very similar position, stopped HRT in October due to a breast lump (thankfully benign) nothing until January when the bleeding just didn’t stop, massive clots but no pain at all - carried on bleeding continuously until March when GP put me on the progesterone only pill - this stopped the bleeding, am still taking it daily. Ultrasound showed thickened endometrial lining (13.8mm) and am on waiting list for Gynaecology (40 week wait on average 😬). Am in limbo, GP won’t put me back on HRT and I’m struggling with symptoms!?

Oh and am severely anemic because of it too, so have the joys of iron tablets 🫣

Hello. I ended up on the iron tablets and narrowly missed having a transfusion as my levels were so low. Also had lots of investigations on the two week cancer investigation pathway. Luckily all clear.

I had a coil inserted and that stopped the bleeding. They think the bleeding was due to stopping the progesterone part of the HRT too quickly (another gps instructions!!!) and should of stayed on it for least 3-6 months after not replacing my implant.

I hope you get it sorted.
