Bleeding mid-cycle even though I’m three years on successful HRT

What do we think? I had my levels checked two months ago and everything was good. I have the oestrogen patches across the month and progesterone for the second half. No changes to dose but I have been really ill with a gastrointestinal virus. I’m wondering if that might explain it?

Are you taking micronised progesterone orally? Have you been sick? if so, you may have lost the MP and it's not worked this month.

If you're under 50 and your periods hadn't stopped before going onto HRT it can also just be a one-off period.

Why are you having your 'levels' (estrogen?) checked?
That's not usual and you can't get an accurate reading from a blood test even though some drs insist you can.(my consultant for meno- one of the best in the UK- refused to test mine in over 15 years on HRT for that reason.)

It was through a consultant as I’m on testosterone as well and my levels need checking for doseage reasons. I’m having another blood test next week to check again before he signs me off.

Im halfway through my ‘cycle’ this month and bleeding with cramps, so I was going to start my progesterone this evening and I’m not sure what to do now.

Did you vomit and lose the progesterone?
If so, it should be okay to wait till your period is over, but it won't make much difference either way.

No. I was ill and vomited but wasn’t in the progesterone half of my cycle. I need to check to see if I’m bleeding properly or just spotting.

This is me today. Three years on HRT, same regime. Had a heavy period this month (most months just get spotting, but some months do have a period) (so that bit is slightly different) but the bleeding hasn’t stopped (it’s very light, but am on day 12 now) Spoke to doc who said she will refer me for ultrasound. I am thinking it is a change in hormones (I am 50) but disconcerting nonetheless
