Sudden progesterone issues

I’ve been on HRT for about 18 months quite happily.

over the last few weeks, the rage over have been feeling us OFF THE CHARTS and I realised it coincides with my progesterone.

I recently swapped to patches and thought it was the synthetic progesterone in the patches..however, I took some progesterone tablets today after two weeks of feeling calmer, and I now feel murderous again….

has anyone else developed an aversion to progesterone? I did used to have severe PMT but not for the last few years. I am under significant stress at present.

I’m sorry you’re feeling like that. I have been on HRT for a few months - the spray and progesterone and I have found a bit of a pattern that around the 4th day of starting the two weekly course, or the 4th day of stopping that my mood falls off a cliff. I was really alarmed the first few times and now I’m just trying to tell myself it’s just my hormones and it’ll feel better tomorrow.

perhaps you could keep notes of how you’re feeling and talk to your nurse / doctor?

Hi OP, I am progesterone intolerant and so to avoid the peaks and troughs, so to speak, my GP switched me to combined continuous, which has really helped

Hi, I am progesterone intolerant too so decided to come off hrt after 2.5 years. I just could not cope with the awful mood impact. It used to be just whilst I was on the progesterone for 12 days which I could just about manage but after a while it turned into every day. I think it built up in my system or something. Progesterone is like fucking Kryptonite or something.

I’ve booked an appt with the newson clinic to discuss.
I’ve had issues in the past with progesterone pills and had the Mirena coil removed after 6 weeks as I was planning how to dispose of my husband (he was a twat but even so?)…
I spoke to a GP last night who advised me to speak to a specialist.

Same as @JJkate i had to stop all HRT because of progesterone. Had what I now know to be PMDD most of my life so it all makes sense. Doctors didn't believe the effect it had on me so for my own sanity and safety of my family I had to stop.
