Dizzy/shaky/insomnia on HRT - anywhere to go from here?

I’m 44 and I’ve been on 3 x 1mg Sandrena sachets plus 200mg Utrogestan 14 days a month for around 4 years. I’ve also tried testosterone at various points but not felt much difference.

Symptoms were and are greatly improved but every so often I have what feels like a massive fluctuation and feel like absolute death. This can last days or weeks.

Currently in a dip where I feel dizzy (like I’m walking on a boat), shaky, weak, exhausted, awful brain fog, poor sleep, muscle pain across neck and shoulders - you get the picture. It’s been about 6 weeks of this.

I feel like I need to tweak something, but I don’t know whether to:

  • decrease oestrogen?
  • switch to 25/3 regime of Utrogestan?
  • add testosterone again?
  • split my gel dose morning and evening?
  • try patches?

Or could I be low in something? I take Vitamin D, iron and B12 supplements.

So grateful for anything that’s helped anyone with these symptoms.

Are you tracking your cycle? Does it correspond with period? What does your GP say? Sounds like you defo need some professional advice and some blood tests.

Some of what you describe could be magnesium deficiency but for goodness’ sake if you haven’t spoken to a doctor please do book in.
Let us know how you get on.

Sorry - should have said, I have been to the GP and she has suggested reducing my oestrogen to 2 x sachets and see how I feel in 3 months. They really do seem quite clueless though.

I’ve also had lots of blood tests and all is ok apart from slightly low iron.

I take magnesium supplements.

I track my cycle and it is currently out of sync with my progesterone days but I have been told (and all advice reiterates) to simply take it the same days each month regardless of bleeds.
