Period stopped after swapping from oestrogen gel to patches

I just wondered if anyone else else’s had the same thing happened to them.

I was on a great regime using the gel every day, and then using Utrogestan vaginally on a cycle. I would always finish my last pill on the Friday, by Sunday I would get a little bit of gripey period pain, Monday/Tuesday PMS kicked in, and then by Wednesday/Thursdsy my period started. It was like clockwork.

My doctor suggested swapping to the oestrogen patches instead of the gel just for ease, and I’ve done that for two cycles now.

However, I haven’t had a period, none of the PMS symptoms are around, I don’t have any period pain or even a feeling that the period starting. Nothing, it’s like it was before I started HRT when my periods disappeared.

Has anyone else had this, is this just settling into the patch and I need to wait a bit longer? or should I be going back to my gel?

As I’ve said before, I’m slightly paranoid about taking my progesterone vaginally and womb linings et cetera, so I had always been relying on having a period to make sure I knew things were shedding properly. So this isn’t my happy place!

This hasn’t happened to me but I would love my periods to stop! Absolutely sick of them 😩

I am still on the gel, I had periods for 2 or 3 months, now stopped asuned it's just the menopause running it's course.

@LimesGoddess It could be that you aren't absorbing so much estrogen. Is the dose of the patch roughly the same as the amount of gel? 2 pumps of gel is roughly a 50mcg patch.

If you're using sequential HRT you have withdrawal bleeds forever- even till you're 90 in theory if you carried on with sequential HRT, as the HRT creates a false cycle. Some women don't get a bleed but it's worth talking to your dr if you never have any IF you're on sequential.

It also depends on the dose of gel- a low does may not thicken the lining enough to shed.

Hmmm, I was having those bleeds when I started. Got some break through symptoms ( hot flushes) increased to 2 pumps have had 2 cycles with no bleeds.

Yes - I was on 2 pumps and they put me on the evorel 50 patches. I’m tempted to go back to the gel and see if that works.

I don’t feel the patch is working as well for me, but I was awful at remembering to do the gel and waiting for it to dry each morning
