Perimenopause symptoms

vikki891 · 20/10/2025 16:07

Not sure if I am perimenopausal, but the last few months to a year, a week before my period I am so low in my mood, tired and emotional, to the point it scares me how low I am. I never used to be like this, I have never been one thankfully that suffers with my period and my periods are regular.

Am I perimenopausal or depressed? I have no other symptoms and once my period is over I’m back to normal.

Any advice is appreciated ♥️

Looks hormone-related at the very least. Without knowing your age and other symptoms, it’s hard to know.
Have you tried taking supplements for general hormonal balance?
I started with these 4/5y ago when my cycle started going all over the place, it was the slow beginning of peri, but it’s only this year I have upgraded to menopausal supplements (hot flashes that started last year became too much)

Depends on your age. Usually, you'll have a few more symptoms if you're in peri. One of the first for me, though, was a dip in my mental health.

This was certainly my worst symptom. Really low and especially irritable and anxious in pmt week. Also had heart palpitations, night sweats (also during pmt week), frozen shoulder and tinnitus. I would suggest seeing a woman’s health specialist doctor if possible. At my GP surgery they run a clinic once a month. The doctor offered a trial of anti depressants or a trial of HRT.

I’m 41, 42 in January. My periods are pretty regular and I always thought when I was in peri that’s when my periods would become less frequent by perhaps I’m wrong

@vikki891 Think I was 43 when my mental health went to shit.

menopausalfart · 20/10/2025 16:49

I'm on HRT and antidepressants. I still get hormonal dips in my moods although not as intense.

For me, it started by irregular/shorter cycles while I had been regular like clockwork, then 1/2y after, back to back episodes of UTI/thrush.
It’s actually by googling the latter that I realised that it was perimenopause and also how I discovered MN.
