How long roughly from periods changing to menopause?

I’ve possibly been in perimenopause for a while (quite difficult to tell from symptoms such as sleep, body temperature etc due to an autoimmune condition that has similar issues) but over the last few months my periods have definitely changed. They were very regular every 28 days and are now closer to 21 and much lighter.

I am guessing this probably differs for everyone but is there a rough timeline for peri to menopause? Everything I read says peri can last 10 years and just wondering if I potentially need to psych myself up for 10 years of 3 weekly periods / period chaos in other ways or whether period changes are more like mid than early peri menopause.

For me it was 5 years of irregular periods, very heavy periods, long periods etc and then they stopped.
