No withdrawal bleed - should I be concerned?

I’m 50 and I’ve recently completed my first cycle of HRT. 2 pumps of Oestrogel daily and 200mg of Utrogestan for 12 days. I took the last dose of Utrogestan on Thursday night but have no signs of bleeding. Prior to starting HRT I was having regular periods every 23/24 days. Should I speak to my GP?

I am on the same routine as you and my last period turned up 10 days late. I did also have very regular periods every 23/24 days prior to starting HRT.

I asked my menopause specialist. She said that my own cycle is over-riding the HRT schedule and the month it was very late was because I didn't ovulate that month.

I had absolutely horrific symptoms until my period eventually arrived. I ended up increasing the estrogen, and feel much better now. This period turned up on time again.

I think if you are still producing a lot of your own hormones it doesn't mean it always works the way it says on the tin.

My specialist wasn't concerned (I was a bit).

I think also not everyone gets a withdrawal bleed. Does it feel like one is en route ?

@aeroplaneoverthesea There probably isn't much womb lining to shed. You've only been on HRT for 1 month. For 2 weeks of that month, the progesterone is 'dampening down' the growth of the lining. I'd not worry about this at all. Wait and see how it goes.

@101trees@JinglingSpringbells Thank you both. I’ve been bloated for the last couple of days and my lower abdomen is a bit achey. But also I’ve been getting a lot of discharge exactly like when I ovulate! I’ll just see how it goes

I don’t have a bleed until 5 to 6 days after I stop my Utrogestan. Everyone’s cycles are about different.

My Utrogestan ends on a Friday and my bleed starts the following Thursday - also much lighter than before HRT. If any of that helps

@LimesGoddess thank you, that’s interesting. Last night I had awful night sweats, vivid dreams and was up 3 times for a wee!

I'm on month 5 of starting sequential HRT (evorel patch plus 2 weeks on/off utrogesten) and havent had a single withdrawal bleed. I am however continuing cerazette for contraception, which has stopped my periods for 15 years. Long may it continue I say!
