So fed up with Mirena side effects, will they improve?

I am almost 4 weeks in to having a Mirena fitted. First week was generally ok other than the cramping, then 2nd week I developed bad reflux, third week the reflux seemed to change to less heartburn more mouth symptoms and I got really bad gum pain and metallic taste. 4th week gum pain is improving a bit but still have metallic taste and now a contant tension headache and fatigue.

In addition I seem to have gained 1kg in the past week despite not changing my diet and being a contstant weight for 2 years. Plus I am still soaking through a tampon each day and have slight stomach pain.

I realise there is an adjustment period but am getting so fed up with all these symptoms and am wondering when things will improve. I know I should probably give it 3 months to settle but was wondering when other people started to feel better and if any symptoms persisted long term.

I’m sorry you’re feeling bad.

How do you know your digestive problems are because of the Mirena?

Thanks for your reply. I am pretty sure they are progesterone related as I always got reflux when I took utrogestan 12 days a month. Supposely it relaxes the lower esophigial splincter. I was told they would be better with the mirena because it acts locally. They certainly don't seem to be as severe and maybe clearing up as my body adjusts, but the other side effects are more bothersome now.

Yes it does get better. Took 3 months for it to properly settle for me, and 9 months to stop some (not much) break through bleeding.

I found evening primrose oil helped in the early days.
