Anyone else? I have to have all the windows open in the house and car. I was in a MH meeting last week and everyone was complaining of the cold yet I actually had sweat running down my face! My hair is always wet with sweat.
It’s not hot flushes, it’s all the time..

HRT?

ninjahamster · 05/10/2025 22:37

Would it help? I have regular blood tests and they said after my last ones that my hormone levels were good. I am 51 and still have regular periods.

Hot sweats day and night were my only symptom (10 years ago). Ask your gp for paroxetine. Stopped in 3 days.

Thank you, will do!

DON'T whatever you do, do not ask for Paroxetine! Horrendous drug. And it causes excess sweating anyway

Lottapianos · 22/10/2025 16:18

You need HRT. Blood tests for hormone levels are not reliable. They should be diagnosing perimenopause based on symptoms. You're clearly peri, and you need to replace your depleting hormone levels

It will definitely help, but may take up to 12 weeks to kick in. You don't have to live like this

ninjahamster · 22/10/2025 16:57

Thanks everyone. I spoke to the GP and I’m having bloods done again tomorrow.

If they're still fobbing you off after yet more blood tests, tell them that you've read the NICE guidelines and they are supposed to be diagnosing perimenopause based on your symptoms. Use the Balance app to record your symptoms every day so you have a record of what's going on in your body over time. And TELL them that you're interested in HRT

Stormwhatnow · 22/10/2025 18:25

Lots of medical conditions can cause excessive sweating so bloods are probably a good idea. It's not always down to hormonal changes. I think there are probably a lot of women who are just told their health issues are down to the menopause because they're a certain age when it might be something else. Hot flushes usually come and go rather than lasting 24/7 ime.

Delatron · 22/10/2025 18:48

I thought doctors had to go off symptoms rather than blood tests as blood tests are unreliable? You clearly have symptoms so push for HRT. My hot flushes and night sweats stopped within a week. And they have never come back…

ninjahamster · 22/10/2025 20:01

Thanks, as the poster upthread suggested, it is constant feeling hot. I’ve had the windows and back doors open all day as so hot!

Feeling hot all the time is definitely a peri menopause symptom. I had the same as well as the night sweats.

It’s also a symptom of Parkinson’s disease (I’ve had this for decades and it takes over my life!) so let’s not just immediately blame everything on perimenopause!

Im sorry to hear that. But what do we think with a woman of that age is the most likely outcome?

Anyway, hopefully the doctor can assess on symptoms and not hormonal blood tests as we know these are wildly inaccurate. If with HRT the sweats don’t resolve then I’m sure at that point other avenues would be explored.

You can get a full panel of bloods done including thyroid, iron, vitamin deficiencies if you really want to cover off all angles.

Howinthehelldidthishappen · 23/10/2025 11:48

Just to say, I had a phone appointment with my gp, and based on the symptoms she sent the prescription for HRT to the chemist then and there.
She didn't want to do blood tests, as they are notoriously unreliable, and as I had so many symptoms (a lot of which I wouldn't have connected to meno myself) she wanted to treat asap.
I am only about 3 weeks in now, but it has honestly changed my life. And that's not being dramatic.

ninjahamster · 23/10/2025 13:46

Thank you. I’ve had my blood tests this morning.
