Can you get oestrogen cream if you still have periods?

I got my first UTI a few weeks ago. Got antibiotics from Boots which worked. I’m 52 and still have regular periods but very definitely in peri menopause. I tried oral HRT and it didn’t work for me.

I have also started to get over active bladder issues

it was recommended on here that I try oestrogen cream (for the vaginal area) but when I try and apply at the pharmacy, it says I need to be 54 or not had periods for a year.

is that right? Has anyone managed to get it if you still have periods? I don’t want to waste the doctor’s time if it’s something they can’t do

You should be able to get it prescribed by a doctor, the criteria they use to provide HRT through a pharmacy without a GP appointment are slightly different but a doctor will be able to prescribe it.

I hope you can get it sorted!

TBH OP just tell the pharmacy that your periods have stopped. How can they check?

The criteria is more strict for buying ITC.

They aren't right anyway- it's not over 54, it's over 50 and post menopause.

You'll pay £20 for it though compared the cost of a prescription and maybe your GP would give you 3 tubes on that.

Hi OP. I get 4 tubes of estriol cream at a time (monthly) and have been doing since I was 44.

I'm 53 and still having periods and I was prescribed Estriol for burning. It didn't work for me though so tried Vagisil and that was better. The burning has gone now.

I've just got vagifem, privately, as I am too suffering with a recurrent uti. Trying it to see if it helps. I'm 40 and still getting periods

Im 51, and noticed a loss of sensation and sensitivity during sex. I don't find sex painful. I am considering asking the doctor for vaginal oestrogen. Would this help?

Probably is the short answer! Longer answer is it won’t do any harm and worth a try
