Worst headache ever

Just started the oestrogen gel two days ago. Yesterday for the morning I felt weird and very tired but it wore off
Last night after my second dose I was woken in the night with a horrific headache in a really precise part of my head and it hasn’t gone. I can’t go to work today it’s so bad.
I was prescribed two pumps of the gel but have only been doing one as I know I’m very sensitive to any kind of medication or hormones
Is this normal?

Yes, it's fairly common unfortunately: https://www.nhs.uk/medicines/hormone-replacement-therapy-hrt/oestrogen-tablets-patches-gel-and-spray/side-effects-of-oestrogen-tablets-patches-gel-and-spray/

But at least it's an adjustment reaction, it won't continue once your body adjusts. If you're not a fan of taking ibuprofen/paracetamol I recommend popping a couple of cloves in a cup of tea - honestly works wonders.

Thank you, that’s so reassuring. I will try the cloves but maybe have some paracetamol today and get to work!

Cloves are like magic, I promise! Don't push yourself too hard, hormones are funny things. I started on them in February and I have good and bad days. Mainly good, but definitely glitches along the way.

I started both Oestrogel and utrogestan on Saturday and I’ve had a low level headache and awful nausea the last 2 days. Hoping it passes.

How are you feeling now?

The “worst headache of your life “ could be something more serious. Consult a GP you aren’t sure (my mum had a brain aneurysm and her consultant said if it leaks it will
be “the worst headache you’ve ever had in your entire life”).

Not trying to scare you, it’s probably just hrt side effect but we are not able to assess you medically in a chat
hope you are better soon

I've had the worst headaches of my life and been bed ridden in the dark all day with nothing touching it and I read @Realitea post with relief.
I'd started on HRT patches, I'm obviously menopausal. I'm not usually headache prone...
I wouldn't leap straight to brain tumour unless other significant reasons to.

Totally agree with this advice. A severe headache that’s not usual for you needs medical advice and possibly further investigation, especially if accompanied by other symptoms.

It’s also advisable to take your blood pressure if you are able to.

Just because other people taking HRT say they have had the same does not mean you can assume you’re alright!
