I have been on 3 daily pumps of oestrogen gel and 12 days of utrogestan progesterone for two years. I initially struggled with very low mood on the utrogestan so tried taking it vaginally which didn't help and then upped estrogen to 3 pumps a day. This made it just about tolerable but those 12 days a month were horrible.

In April this year I spoke to a GP about it who suggested switching to combined patches instead but warned me that the highest dose of oestrogen would be equivalent to 2 pumps. She then said she had to check this with someone and would get back to me. Whilst waiting for a callback (two weeks) I slowly reduced my pumps to 2.5 a day but this was awful and symptoms came roaring back (insomnia, mood swings, vaginal dryness etc) she got back to me to approve the change eventually and I tried the patch for a couple of days but at this point hadn't slept well for ages so thought fuck this and reverted back to 3 pumps of gel and 12 days of utrogestan.

Now here's the weird thing. Ever since then (mid May) I've felt low and tearful and low energy most days so I'm not even getting the good days when I'm just on estrogen like I did before.

Can anyone shed any light on what's going on and is it possible things will get better? I feel so depressed and feel like I'm going mad.

Why don’t you have a mirena coil, it’s low dose and continuous?

Have you tried vitamin B complex for energy? How is your sleep?

If you’re on FB try this group - run by Diane Danzebrink’s team - The Menopause Support Network. Really good advice

Because the thought of having progesterone inside me and unable to take it out at will scares me, at least with the tablets I can stop today.

I was taking b12 a while ago but during a routine test they said it was high and I shouldn't take it in supplement form. I do take magnesium glycinate which helps with sleep but am lately waking an hour after dropping off then again in middle of night and then again about 5 or 6.
