HRT Patches

Hi everyone,
I have been given HRT patches to use to help me through the hell that is perimenopause. I’m slightly worried about the side effects particularly the increased risk of things, I can be quite a paranoid person so just looking for some advice or to chat to people who are on patches or a similar situation. Thank you in advance.

I’m on them; no side effects at all but lovely nights of sleep!

I’ve been using them for just over a year, I really noticed when my dose needed increasing. No negative effects for me.

Was on them for a few years. No side effects. Switched to gel purely because they kept falling off.

What increased risks are you worried about? You know the breast cancer risk has been debunked?

WaxingGibbon · 05/08/2025 20:54

The main reason I’m on hrt is to reduce the health risk I’m most worried about, which is osteoporosis in later life. Just keep an eye on how you’re feeling / how your body seems to be adjusting. If you start to notice any unwanted side effects you can always switch to a different mode, dose or come off altogether.

Thank you ladies, I think I’m just paranoid possibly as I have never tried them before 🙈all your stories have made me feel reassured so thank you so much 💕

I have had no issues since starting HRT- the only thing I would say is I swapped to gel and tablets from patches as I didn’t find them secure enough. Out of 4 patches one completely came off and 2 needed taping down until I changed them. If your peri symptoms have got to you enough to get HRT what have you got to lose? You can always come off them if they really don’t ageee with you

I've started on them recently and apart from the buggers not sticking (I now stick them on and then put that tattoo healing second skin stuff over the top - so the adhesive+hormones still get to work) - no issues.

Why does it say on the in pack warning sheet not to use if you’ve had a blood clot yet doctors & internet sources say it’s ok?

I started with patches until I developed an allergy to the glue (latex allergy) post hysterectomy.
I've been on the gel for 12 years, no problems at all. My GP says I can stay on it as long as I want.
