Hurting hands in the morning

Is this another menopausal treat or something else? I’m 44, on HRT and when I wake up my hands feel like I’ve spent the previous day digging in fields. That feeling you get when you really have done a days hard labour. Stiff and aching hands.

Yes I am afraid so, another thing we have to put up with, i started HRT at 46 and it really helped with the aches and pains,

saying that you should get checked out and not put up with it as "another thing".

Menopause is not responsible for every achievement and pain. It could be arthritis.
My earliest arthritis symptoms started exactly the same time as menopause.

Five years on I was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis.

BestZebbie · 25/07/2025 23:40

Yes, if you have hand or knee pain and stiffness for 45 mins after getting up it can be rheumatoid arthritis.

yellowcupofhappy · 25/07/2025 23:50

What are we meant to do with this? I have sore hips and sore hands on waking. Know I need to lose some weight.
also sore thumbs the main knuckle joint (too much texting?)

Are you taking anything else as I found my bp tablets caused this. My Dr disagrees but I've come off them and no longer feel I've been hard at work with the secateurs!

I’m on thyroxine for underactive thyroid too

Joint stiffness is quite common, my joints were terrible during peri, picking the kettle up in a morning was a painful task. They seem OK post menopause

DeliciouslyBaked · 26/07/2025 07:13

Have you had your vit D levels checked lately? I had terribly stiff joints and hands when bfing DD1. Went to GP worried about rheumatoid arthritis and it turned out my vit D was incredibly low. GP told me which level dose to take and it made a huge difference.

DalstonsRhubarb · 26/07/2025 07:15

This was my first symptom of psoriatic arthritis. Get it checked out.
