I switched this week from Evorel sequi patches to gel as in recent heat the patches haven’t been sticking and replacing every day or so. Doctor switches to gel so waited until box finished and started gel which is 2 pumps . Started Monday and feel awful nausea, headache and achey breasts and one pump is a heck of a lot of gel. I tried yesterday doing my 2 pumps at night and have had awful nights sleep so won’t be doing that again. Just feel I’m either giving myself too much gel as 2 pumps is so much gel and side note my period hasn’t arrived either which usually does after the progesterone patch. I’ve only been on HRT 3 months but at moment I’m thinking is is worth it as feel so awful any words of wisdom would be great

Are you spreading it on your inner thigh with the lid of the pump?
I found it affected sleep, so I do mine in the morning.
I have a mirena coil so that I don’t have to mess about with progesterone

Yes on inner thigh not sure what you mean about using the lid?

I used to use 4 pumps of the gel (2 in the morning and 2 in the evening) but didn’t really feel it was a lot of gel! I would apply in the morning, 1 full pump on each thigh. Try and spread out over your thigh to let it dry quicker.

Pinklady81 · 25/07/2025 07:43

I’m not sure if I’m pressing pump too hard as loads come out on my opinion

I use 2 pumps in the morning and like the ppl I use the cap as a spreader. I had sore breasts in the first week but after that it was fine.

HipHipWhoRay · 25/07/2025 07:46

When I started I also thought the volume was high too, and I have a lot of thigh, but you get used to it. I use it in morning and it improved my sleep

Were you using a 50mg patch? That’s the equivalent dose to two pumps of gel so should be broadly like for like.

Are you meant to spread gel with the cap? I just use my hand and then wash it … 😳

You can’t press too hard - the pump only presses down so far and is designed to give a measured dose.

Patches to stick - wash area in soap, as showegel leaves residue.
Dry area
Warm patch in hand
Peel half patch not touching any of sticky side as wont stick. Put on and peel other bit backing off.
Blast with hairdryer
I have to put mine on my bum area as kept coming off on thigh

No! I just find it more convenient and don't need to wash my hands (busy bathroom in mornings)

Crying is most likely a sign that you’ve not been having enough estrogen.

This happened to me when they changed the manufacturing site of Oestrogel and the pump dosage reduced. Within a few days I was in tears all the time and was WTF is wrong with me? I increased my gel dosage (just by half a pump) and was back to normal within a day or two.

I apply 2 pumps of gel on my outer upper arms every night (1 pump per arm) and wash my hands thoroughly afterwards. I do it before I clean my teeth and wash my face and by the time I’ve done those, it’s dry. I much prefer putting it on my arms rather than thighs as there’s much less faffing.

RandomMess · 25/07/2025 19:31

I absolutely have to put it on my arms rather than thighs.

Pinklady81 · 27/07/2025 12:38

I’ve found using the lid a game changer but my mood is so low o could cry at anything and cause an argument ! I’ve still no period despite finishing patches on Monday and then switches to gel

@Pinklady81 i was on Evorel then switched to estrogel as didn’t feel patches were working any more. Have recently switched again to lenzetto spray and much prefer it. 3 sprays on one arm, dries in seconds.l so much easier than gel.

Thanks it’s the changes in mood and no period I’m worried about

My period was late since switching to the gel so I’m on day 9 today even though I’ve been on the gel for over a fortnight so I keep using the gel only until I get to day 15 to start the utrogestan? I’m a little confused
