Mirena and estrodol gel heavy bleeding

Hi, I’ve had the mirena coil in for 17 months and also started on 1 pump of hrt gel not long after. I upped my dose in dec/jan time to two pumps but my periods have become heavier. They are so heavy lately that I am passing large clots and ruining my bedding and clothes. I also bleed heavy for 2-3 weeks. Someone suggested lowering my dose to 1 pump, so I have and my bleeding has stopped. I am scheduled to go to the doctors in 5 days time. Has this happened to anyone?

@louiebluesausi haven’t had this happen to me but I’m interested in the fact your bleeding stopped. I have a mirena and have constant spotting. I also on 2 pumps oestrogel. Let me know how you get on at the GP!

I’d be getting the coil checked too. Increased bleeding could be because it’s misplaced and no longer working. Unsure on the HRT.

@pleasedrivecarefullyi think I’ve decided to have it out- on a waiting list for removal - the erratic spotting is so irritating!

Well spoke too soon. It’s started again 😩

@Katie342when did you have it fitted? I had constant spotting for about 7 months and was at my wits end. I also suffering from dryness and irritation down there so was miserable. But the spotting setttled and I haven’t had any bleeding at all since then. It’s honestly transformed my life as I had such heavy periods before and I’m so glad I persevered.

@louiebluesausI think such heavy bleeding is so unusual on Mirena that I definitely think you need to get that checked out. It sounds like your GP needs to rethink your plan as that all sounds so wretched.

@pleasedrivecarefullyinterestiny. I’ve had mine 8 months next week and have ruin d so much underwear! Not heavy bleeds but just spotting. Enough to be irritating! I’m also getting loads of cherry angiomas which I think is the hormones too

louiebluesaus · 26/07/2025 12:40

Katie342 I get those cherry angiomas too!!!

@louiebluesaus sorry to hear about the bleeding restarting 🤦🏻‍♀️ I know exactly how you feel! Interesting you also have cherries. I had some in pregnancy but since starting HRT/getting a coil I seem to have loads 🤷🏻‍♀️ they stress me out tbh!
