Dosing confusion of Oestrogel pump pack

3 replies

Dozymoo42 · 04/07/2025 21:03

Just been prescribed Oestrogel pump pack by my doctor after blood tests confirm I am in perimenopause.

collected my prescription today and the dose the doc said I was starting on was 1.5mg I am a little confused as the gel says each pump is 1.25mg - so what do I do? Do I waste a little everytime?

apologies if this is really obvious to everyone but I’m a little nervous of starting on this so if anyone has any experience who can advise I would be so great ful!

@Dozymoo42

according to this your Dr. is suggesting 2 pumps per day = 1.5mg.

Menopausal and postmenopausal symptoms:

Each metered dose (1 pump actuation) from the dispenser is 1.25 g of Oestrogel. Two pumps (2.5 g) of Oestrogel once daily (1.5 mg estradiol) is the usual starting dose, which in the majority of women will provide effective relief of symptoms.

You could pop to the pharmacist/call surgery if you don't feel confident though

1 pump is 1.25g of GEL but that is not all estrogen. Most of it is water and alcohol.

One pump depression of EstroGel delivers 1.25g of gel containing 0.75 mg estradiol. The active component of the gel is estradiol.

Each pump gives 0.75mgs of estrogen.
2 pumps= 1.5mgs.

Thank you everyone! I am going to try and not overthink it too much and see how I go.
