Itching

Just wondering if anyone else has experienced itching as a menopause symptom? I have always had dermatitis/eczema (comes and goes over the years) but mostly on my face and hands. For a few months now, my whole body (except my face and hands, oddly) is intensely itchy. Mainly my feet, ankles, lower legs, stomach, back, upper arms and even my boobs!

I have very sensitive skin so am very limited on what moisturisers I can use (at the moment every single cream I have tried seems to make my skin react in small hives/rash). I have been taking an anit-histamine every evening and now have some steroid (used it before and use responsibly).

I am 53 and have no idea where I am in the menopause. Have been on the mini pill since I was about 40 for flooding during periods and therefore low iron.

Any advise, tips, reassurance greatly appreciated!

My own experience (at 55 and in late peri) is that I'll have a spell of intermittent itching in one particular area (arms, hands, shins) for a few months, and then it will pass. This seems to be typical of all peri symptoms for me in general. Right now it's itchy inner ears! I've no remedies, the itching hasn't been severe for me, just a little annoying. Hopefully your own symptoms might be similar and disappear before too long.

Hi, me too. I think it is a common symptom due to hormonal changes. Our skin are getting thinner and less elastic. My itching started on my scalp, arms, body and legs. I had to keep changing shampoos and shower gels. I am using baby shampoo, baby toiletries and avoid SLS. My hair is not too bad now. At the moment my ankles and feet are still irritating to me. Hope you find answers x

Have you had your iron levels checked? Iron deficiency can cause itching.

I had this, mainly my scalp. HRT has stopped it but if you don’t want to go that route I found the Pantene menopause hair range reasonably ok at helping it (often half price on Amazon).
For my skin I just have to make sure I am slapping on enough body lotion. L’occitaine almond shower oil was helpful from memory too.

I have this lower limbs and hands. I take Benadryl every day which stops it. If I forget to take it, it comes back with a vengeance!

Antihistamine and CeraVe everyday after showering.
