Hysteroscopy & Biopsy under GA tomorrow morning but I am bleeding..

Please can someone advise. I am due to have hysterosvopy and endometrial biopsy tomorrow under GA but I am bleeding - not flooding or anything but enough that I need to use a pad. Tried calling the hospital to ask but no reply. Can anyone tell me if it is OK because concerned the visuals might not be good. Can these procedures be done with pist menopause bleeding ongoing? Having a bit of a panic...

From memory, yes they can go ahead. I think it might be the case that only very heavy bleeding would postpone things. I’m not medically qualified, I’m just recalling what was said when I went through the same process 18 months ago. After all it is not surprising that post-menopause bleeding might be present during an investigative procedure looking for the causes of the very same, so I doubt they will be concerned.

You could try looking on Menopause Matters as this might well be the kind of questions that has been asked before on their forum. Best of luck - it was absolutely fine with a GA BTW, and I say that as a non-brave patient!

I had one when I was experiencing light bleeding. I managed to contact hospital beforehand to see if I should rearrange as had the same concerns & was told they would proceed. Hope all goes well for you

I thought AF was going to be during mine so asked in advance and they said they would still go ahead

Thank you so much for your reassurance @Pancakewaffle @SeekFreda and @YouOKHun . That makes me feel much better. The bleeding isn't heavy but is present. Thank you for your good wishes too. Feeling very anxious x

Mine went ahead even though I was bleeding, not lightly either. Mine wasn’t under GA so I was a little embarrassed but it was nothing to worry about. Just let them know when you get there Flowers

@dandeliondandyI was really anxious too, but honestly it was a totally fine (mine was also under GA, may have been a different story otherwise!). I wasn't fully on my period when I had it but I was bleeding a bit and it was ok

Thank you for sharing that. I do feel a bit embarrassed even though I know I shouldn't as they are gynaecologists and know this happens and do these procedures many times a week. I will tell them when I get there 🌷

I think I will be OK once I am there but it is that horrible anticipatory buildup. I took the GA option as I had a Lletz procedure before and don't know if there is much cervical scarring/stenosis plus other people's experiences didn't leave me wanting to find out whilst conscious. Were you up and about quickly afterwards?

I had a hysteroscopy under GA. The best way to have it. Absolutely nothing to worry about. You just drift off and have a lovely sleep. I was talking about my favourite cocktails to the nurse. Next thing I was being gently woken up. I was surprised how quickly the anaesthetic wore off afterwards and I was bored and wanted to watch tv on my phone! I’m sure it will go ok for you. Think of that nice first cup of tea and biscuit afterwards.

I was ready to go home soon after. Although I felt awkward about the bleeding staff were reassuring that it was no issue. Woke up with a pad in place. It was a relief having an GA after trying to have a hysteroscopy without one! There was some waiting around beforehand.

I had exactly the same situation in March, it will be fine. They explained to me that quite often people are having a hysteroscopy because of bleeding so it’s not a problem to them if you are bleeding whilst you have one. I woke up feeling great if somewhat ravenous! I was a bit tired the next day but after that was absolutely great. I hope all goes well for you.
