I had similar and ended up having a hysterectomy. How long have you been bleeding?

mondaytosunday · 20/06/2025 20:14

exactly how long? Weeks? That’s not normal. A friend had a back ache and bled for months - they finally discovered she had cancer. Get yourself to your GP.

I was prescribed Tranexamic acid initially to stop the bleeding, and then after investigations had a mirena coil fitted which basically stopped my periods apart from the odd spotting.

I would urge you to consult your GP and get things checked, to hopefully rule out anything serious and deal with the bleeding.

I initially had an elongated period, about 2-3 weeks.
Then the second time it was 7 weeks pretty much constant, and lots of excessive days. At one point I went to pick up DC from somewhere 15 mins away, emptied my mooncup before I left and flooded onto the car seat in those 15 mins. Horrendous.

GP is a general practitioner or doctor. Clearly you are not in the UK?

12 days isn’t that long considering you’re in peri or menopause. But see your doctor if you are worried.

I bled solidly for 3 months 😭

Eastendboysandwestendgirls · 20/06/2025 21:06

I bled every day for 3 years, 2 years before they took it seriously. I have (had) PCOS so a typical period for me was 10 days. Unless you are flooding every day, 12 days isn't particularly excessive, so I wouldn't worry at the moment.

OMG, SEVEN WEEKS! I've been bleeding for 4 now, some days light, some days heavy. I've taken to wearing period pants at work as it's not easy to get to the he loo.
Phoned the GP last week but she just said advise if it carries on. Last time this happened it was 3 weeks and they gave me tablets to stop the bleeding which didn't work.
