Hello! My mother is 70 and has osteoporosis in her spine and hip. I have read that studies show HRT in post menopausal women may benefit bone density in later life, along with all the other positives linked to heart disease and dementia.

However, her GP has totally dismissed her, citing outdated info about blood clot and cancer risks.

Does anybody have experience of a situation like this? And is a private prescription an option? Surrey based.

The GP is utterly wrong.

Your Mum can certainly get HRT and yes, it's prescribed for women her age as prevention and treatment.

I have friends over 70 on HRT, and know other women using it for osteo, in their 60s.

Yes, of course she can see a private consultant and if she cam travel to London there are more options. There are some in Surrey- best place to start is your local private hospitals and look under Gynaecologists.

Can she get to Guildford? I can PM you names.

Thank you! Yes she can get to Guildford, would really appreciate that. I am SO cross hearing about how the GP just dismissed the whole thing AND gave her wrong information. It’s exasperating!
