Should I stop taking HRT - side effects

A few years ago I was on HRT patches. All good. I didn't have many peri symptoms tbh but they did help massively with joint pain and sleep improved. I had to come off them as I was having some problems with BP but all OK now and I decided to go back on HRT as I want the bone and heart benefits ftom the oestrogen.

When chatting with the GP we decided on oestrogel and progesterone tablets to save the faff of the patch but I've been hit with horrible side effects from what must be the progesterone which has taken me by surprise as I had none with the patches.

Day 1 I had the most awful heartburn that I'd never experienced before. Then followed a series of gastro problems - nausea, wind, constipation, bloating. The bloating is awful. I look 7 months pregnant, no exaggeration and can't wear a lot of my normal clothes. Feel so uncomfortable. Then today came the dizziness. I haven't felt any benefit at all, just feel as sick as a dog.

I can't get a GP appointment for another 2 weeks. Was hoping to just carry on and move over to patches but not sure I can hang on till then. Has anyone any experience of side effects like this and did it settle down? Any advice welcome.

I did some research just before I started Utrogestan and found these side effects were common. Someone else on here then posted that they were taking them vaginally (insert like a tampon), which eradicates almost all of the side-effects.

I spoke to my GP and they said they were perfectly happy for me to take them that way instead of swallowing them, and I’ve been on it for awhile now with no side-effects.

Thanks LimesGoddess. I started using them that way last night. Fingers crossed the side effects settle down. I'm hoping to just make it to my appt in a couple of weeks then switch straight back to the patches

I didn't get on with the gel either, patches are slower release rather than two big waves of hormones each day
