Zentiva Progesterone - Vaginally

JustPinkFinch · 11/06/2025 10:59

At my last prescription pickup the chemist gave me Zentiva 100mg (previously always Gepretix).

I know it's the same drug, but has anyone else used these vaginally?

I see lots of talk about Utrogestan and even some Gepretix vaginally, but nothing on Zentiva.

Thank you!

Apologies if I'm wrong but isn't Zentiva the name of the company?
If you google Zentiva, it's the name of the pharma company.
On the box it should say micronised progesterone (in smaller print?)

You can use any of them orally or vaginally.
But all are off-licence for vaginal use.

There is a 200mgs capsule that IS for vaginal use but it's not licensed in the UK (on the NHS) but can be prescribed off licence. It's only licensed for fertility at that dose (unless prescribed privately as part of HRT.)

Thanks for replying, yes Zentiva is the company. It's a standard 100mg micronised progesterone capsule, and in theory should be OK for vaginal use if the other brands are. I guess I am just stressing that it's not being absorbed, the capsule is quite hard/solid and I wonder how it's breaking down!

3 days in and it's irritating me a little internally, but I am on Mounjaro currently.

If it wasn't dissolving you would find that it worked its way out (through gravity) and you'd find it.

Has this happened?

All the capsules are hard- even the 200mgs ones for vaginal use. They are identical but twice the size.

Don't worry.

I insert them just before bed, so stay lying down to avoid that. In the morning, when I pop for a wee, I try to check they are not in the toilet bowl but it's hard to be 100% sure. I know I am overthinking it...

That's good to know even the vaginal capsules are hard. Thank you.

They are supposed to dissolve in about half an hour.
Women who use them for fertility use bigger doses and they are advised, I believe, to lie down for half an hour.

I'm aware this is an old post but I am currently looking into vaginal progesterone. I am also taking the 100mg zentiva progesterone - have tried vaginal twice but always end worrying about it. I didn't have any discharge or oil leaking as some others had mentioned. No shell falling out either!

I have noticed an increase in PMS/PMDD-like symptoms in the last 6 months and also have a dizziness, drowsiness at other times so wondering if it's the oral progesterone.

How are you getting on with it now?

@80smomma The dose for sequential is 200mgs and it's likely you would notice something the next day. If you're on continuous HRT and using only 1 capsule you probably won't notice any residue.

Yes I am on 100mg sequential. Although, I am going to question this when I see a private gynaecologist as - whilst I don't have periods - it's because I had an endometrial resection, they didn't stop naturally. I am very much still cycling - as can be seen by my bad PMS

The dose for sequential is 2 capsules - 200mgs. Are you saying you've been told to use less because you have no endometrial lining?

Sorry - I meant I am on continuous HRT (total peri brain!)

I had to revert to oral as vaginal use gave me thrush. My vagina is anti anything going in there mind, yours may be less hostile! 😁

Looks like I might have to revise this too... Started to get some discomfort down there, could well be thrush.
