Hair loss

Hi,
I'm now getting very fed up and concerned about the amount of hair I'm losing. Great handfuls when I wash or brush my hair, carpet in bedroom is covered etc.
I'm 57 and have been on HRT for about 3 years.
Does anyone have recommendations for something that will stop this before I'm bald? My social media feeds are currently full of shampoos etc but what actually works.
Help!

Hi, have had two massive bouts of hair loss, most recently to because of a new medication that has put me in medical menopause. I paid private to see a dermatologist and this is what I’ve done to counteract (all long term).

check your ferritin levels with GP. Should be at least 70 bit closer to 100. My GP said mine was fine at 26 but dermatologist said it wasn’t and to supplement iron.

I use men’s 5% regaine foam around five nights a week, applied to scalp.

nizoral dandruff shampoo. I use as a second wash when washing my hair

TikTok is full of women who are using Regaine with good results.
It’s hideously toxic to pets, needs to be applied every night, which I think is too much of a faff personally, but they point out that you brush your teeth every night, so why not do that too?

Low iron, low B12, thyroid issues, low folate and low vitamin D can all cause hair loss. Interestingly ferritin can be marked as ‘normal’ as low as 20, but it needs to be at least 70 for healthy hair growth.

Is it the amount of hair you are losing worrying you (it can be 50-100 strands per day in the shed cycle) or is it actually thinning to the extent your scalp is showing?
