HRT Help - Periods Returning but I am on Evorel Conti (TW Suicidal Thoughts)

Hello, I am posting for advice as its up to a 4 week wait for a non-emergency GP appointment here.

Peri symptoms started nearly 8 years ago (I was well below 40), I eventually got HRT privately in 2022. I have adenomyosis and periods are hellish, getting worse and worse (think Tena pants to cope).

I was given two Decapeptyl injections in 2023, to stop my periods which they did (for just over 13 months) and I was put on Evorel Conti patches (2 patches so 100mcg).

The reason for this is I was having an awful reaction to the progesterone tablets, anxiety, panic attacks and suicidal thoughts were an every day thing. I tried to take it in so many ways but it was the obvious cause.

I have also tried Testosterone but it made no difference I could see.

A coil has been suggested by the GP now that my periods have returned. This was agreed in November and I am still waiting for the appointment. I call every few weeks to check I havent been missed but I am still on the list.

I dont want a coil fitted, I never have. I have enough pain without this possibly causing more or me being stuck with something that the GP says they can take out 'quickly'. There is nothing quick about my GP surgery and there isnt an option to move as I am very rural.

My question - I know I can no longer take the Conti as I still have periods.

Is this it for me until my periods stop and I can return to taking HRT? Is there any alternative if I cant take the progesterone and dont want a coil?

Thank you for reading this far x

Evorel Sequi?

Thanks @CatsWee but you have to take that with the progesterone. Its what I was on before.

My own experience would suggest you might be intolerant to the synthetic progesterone, in which case having a mirena coil inserted would be a really bad move for you. I'd suggest (if you haven't already tried it) oestrogen gel/patches and natural progesterone (utrogestan and there's also gepretix which I was issued in my last repeat prescription and hasn't upset me). I never got on with the Pill back in the day, so it wasn't a total surprise when I got suicidal on the progesterone days when I first started on HRT.

Agree with this -my friend had the same experience.

Are you thinking of the oestrogen-only Evorel patches? Evorel sequi contains progesterone so you don’t need to take tablets. Half the patches are combined and half aren’t.

Maybe, I’m so lost at the moment with brain fog. I just know right now I need a coil fitted alongside the patch I am on.

I’ve tried again today and the GP who is knowledgeable in HRT is taking a 5 week summer break. I’ve been added to a cancellation list at least.

Fabulous.

Definitely worth checking if you got on well with Evorel conti as it’s exactly the same only with sequential progesterone. Good luck.
