Perimenopause/ histamine intolerance

Hi everyone.

currently going through perimenopause.

Im looking for anyone who has experience with histamine intolerance. From reading it seems it’s fairly common with perimenopause.

Everytime I eat I itch everywhere and I mean everywhere. Runny nose. Sneezing fits. Sore and itchy eyes. This can be anytime between 30 min and 1-2 hours after eating.

The more scary side of it is that it makes me panic I feel my heart rate go up. Almost like a small panic attack but it’s not? Also feel jittery sometimes too.

Have no idea if any of this is making sense lol.

will a simple antihistamine help? Is there a specific one to take?

Appreciate anyone help and thanks for reading.

Throat closing is a very worrying sign of an allergic reaction. You need to see a doctor asap. If it happpebs again you should go to A&E. Allergic reactions like this can very quickly progress to full anaphylaxis.

Yes! There’s a lot about this coming out now and many people are finding a daily cetrizine tablet very helpful… but the GPs here are not usually on it.

As PP said, throat closing is more serious as a symptom of anaphylaxis so you need to take that seriously, as will the GP

I developed similar mid-life peri symptoms to fish, but no dr has been able to help - I just avoid it totally. Try keeping food diary and see if it’s something specific?
