Blood clots

My periods have been a bit all over the place for the past year. They changed to roughly a 21 day cycle and became really heavy with regular very small clots.

I had a period beginning of Feb and then nothing until end of April (not pregnant I was tested) normal period (heavy tiny clots, finished 4/5) but just about a week later I started very lightly bleeding (10/5) only really finding blood upon wiping with a few spots on the pad. This continued daily until 15/5 when it really kicked in heavy.

I rang my GP on 17/5 as I passed a large clot and she prescribed me transanmexic? Acid (aware that's not the correct name, I can't collect it until tomorrow) 18/5 a couple of reasonable size clots but onto today and I've passed 8/9 pretty sizeable clots and I can also feel the blood leaving my body I'm on that heavy. I can also smell quite a strong menstrual smell, it's the 'normal' smell just stronger which I'm assuming is because it's so heavy rather than any sort of infection?

I'm of the mind that perimenopause is just being her usual bitch self and I have zero interest in spending time in a&e! No temperature/fever and not much in the way of cramps/pain (I've certainly been worse in the past)

Am I right just to monitor it and start the medication tomorrow or am I missing something and I should seek medical advice urgently?

I experienced very similar in peri, compounded by a large fibroid
It's the gift that keeps on giving! Tbh didn't find tranexamic acid made much difference but worth trying

Investigate the Mirena coil.
It's treatment for heavy periods.

Typically since I posted I've had no more clots and the flow has definitely lightened so here's hoping this one is over, the next one is months away (or never!) and the meds help in the future.

@JinglingSpringbells is the mirena coil the hormone or none hormone one? I'm not currently on any birthday control as the pill, implant and injection all send me crazy with the hormones! I do need to sort contraception but I've been reluctant simply because it will likely mess with my already screwed up cycle

The Mirena slowly releases progesterone which acts as a contraceptive.

I’ve had the same, peri just being a twat unfortunately. I’ve had the Mirena coil fitted, just waiting for it to do its magic (had it less than a month so still having some bleeding).

Just had another two huge clots pass 😒 gotta love being a woman!! I'll definitely look into the coil but in the meantime I'm hoping the medication I'm collecting tomorrow will help
