Hi,
Just checking in to see if anyone else is experiencing weird dental sensations and whether this might be age/perimenopause related. My teeth are generally in pretty good condition, gums are receding a bit and I don't go to the hygienist often enough.
Last 3 weeks or so, particularly with regards to top front teeth, am getting almost like a throbbing sensation, with the odd sensitive kind of zing. Bottom teeth getting the same every now and again. Feels a bit like I have a weird coating on my teeth and my front tooth kind of feels bigger and I'm really conscious of it...
I've seen the dentist who kind of shrugged and said maybe due to receding gum line, and I've been to the hygienist who said could be sinus related (did have a cold at the time). Have also started using sensodyne.
Anyway, cold has gone, teeth felt back to normal for a week and now its creeping back in again.
What to do? Dentist? Doctor? Psychiatrist???! Driving me a bit mad!!

I have similar, also thought I was going mad. For me it's reflux related, I get v bad reflux and gastritis and it's the acid coming up at night irritating and sensitising my teeth.

No reason yours will be the same but it took me years and many dentists before I before I figured this out so just in case it helps you . . .

Agree with PP about reflux. Could also be that you are stressing your teeth by grinding them at night. Your dentist will be able to see tell-tale damage and have a night-splint made for you. Or TMJ problems might cause a slight change in your bite, resulting in stress to your teeth. I have all three of these problems!

What is TMJ? And would those things start randomly?

Yes I also have TMJ and clench, have many fractured teeth.

I also get pain/nausea and a horrid taste in my mouth

TMJ means I wake with headaches and find eating anything chewy too painful. I also notice I clench when I'm awake, had mouth guards from the dentist but chewed through them stop have given up for now

Maybe try some strong Floride tooth paste - makes a big difference, your dentist can give you a prescription.

I have been feeling like this the past few days, started hrt over 2 months ago. Am thinking its peri symptoms or even side effects from the HRT.

I went back to the dentist a few times and she put it down to sinuses. I honestly felt like my teeth were going to fall out. Anyway, I think was a combination of probable hormones and also hayfever.... antihistamines helped.
Its much improved, although wouldn't say they feel 100% normal

Thanks for your reply didn't realise it was an old post til after I posted.

Thats good to know, that's exactly how I feel like my teeth are falling out. Will keep an eye on that as I do suffer from hayfever.
