Stressed and worried

Hi all, apologies if this is in the wrong area.

I'm 36, mum of two.
Periods have been every 3 weeks for a couple of years. Shark attack first couple of days/nights then calm down to end.

17th Feb this year, had a few aches that I usually attribute to period starting, it didn't.. instead I had a week of clear mucous then a lighter than normal flow, then bright red blood that didn't seem to want to stop after weeks.

Got prescribed norethisterone which stopped it, but after 6 days I had to stop taking it as I was badly suffering migraines and stomach bloat to the point I was bed ridden and unable to sleep, and vomited on the day I made the decision to stop.
Two days after finishing the bleeding started again, and I'm pretty sure the blood is also coming out of my urethra as it did prior to norethisterone.
Blood test taken the day after I started norethisterone and got my results back, of which I am iron deficient anaemic, thyroid borderline etc. Another blood test in a couple of weeks and have been told to go for a chest xray (pronably due to my shortness of breath) and to deliver urine and stool samples.
I have been prescribed iron tablets, 1 a day. I feel so awful and have felt so awful for so long.
Right now I can hear my heartbeat in my ears/throbbing and another headache threatening to get worse and I'm so fed up with the bleeding, although it seems slightly calmer than before norethisterone. I've have noticed vaginal dryness prior to my lengthy bleed to and declining libido, of which now there is zilch given the circumstances.
I'm scared that I will always feel this way as the norethisterone made me feel like death too.
I'm also worried about what has caused this. My youngest is 9 and I feel so useless and my partner has been amazing looking after me, bit can't help feeling like a burden. I just want to feel myself again.

Anyone else had periods go nuts? I've read about them becoming further apart and shorter/lighter, and scared of the causes as to why they should not stop.

I lost my mum a few years ago so not 100%, but think she stopped hers by mid 40s.

Is this something else causing the bleeding?!

I'm so stressed, tired and fed up.
If anything thanks for listening to my moan.😵‍💫

Hi

First of all try not to worry.

My periods were like this in my mid-late 30s but foolishly I didn't go to my GP for about a year. I was experiencing heavy periods and passing clots of blood. It was so bad I couldn't go into work during my period as I needed to have a bathroom 1 minute away. Bloods showed low iron too. That made me feel ill all the time until I was able to increase my iron levels.

Initially my GP said it was my ovaries having a last flourish!

To cut a long story short, after lots of tests, my problem turned out to be fibroids. Have a look at the fibroids info on NHS site.

Fibroids can naturally resolve themselves/ease off as you age.

If that seems applicable, ask your GP for a transvaginal scan (it does not hurt whatsoever).

Other than that, perhaps post on the General Health board as I imagine you will get a wider range of experiences there.

Let us know how you're getting on.

You need to ask your GP to consider premature menopause and refer you to a gynaecologist for an assessment. You're very young for these symptoms.

Your mum's was early-ish (average age is 51) and you could be starting. The changes are typical- irregular periods , lots of blood loss, etc.

In the short term, your GP should be offering you the Mirena coil to control the bleeding- read up on it and ask for it at your next appt.
