Positive pregnant test

So my periods all over the shop lately. I'm 45

Couple a months a go I was two weeks late. Took preg test just to put mind at ease. Negative. I'm just over a week late and took a cheap test and it's come up positive. I really struggle to fall pregnant ( and have had loads of miscarriages) . I'm bricking it. Also I'm sure we haven't had sex in ages! Did a clear blue dating test and it says 2-3 weeks. I'm sure we didn't have sex!! However I've googled and I'm finding all over that perimenopause can cause positive pregnant tests . How the hell am I meant to know? I don't know how I feel but if I am I'm meant to take baby aspirin and I definitely haven't had folic acid. Has anyone had a positive pregnant test during perimenopause please

I had this. I can’t even remember what it was that made me feel pregnant as I hadn’t had a period for about six months - but I became convinced I was pregnant last autumn.

Did a clear blue test - positive. Panic.

Called dr and got sent to the gynaecology emergency department. Their test and then bloods came back negative. Phew. Not pregnant.

The nurse said that they see lots of false positives from women in peri/menopause due to hormones all over the place. And Clearblue are apparently very sensitive.

I suggest a hosp appointment to make sure. Their tests are really accurate so should hopefully set your mind at rest.

According to info on line you can be pregnant but it's a chemical pregnancy and you may lose the implanted egg, but it can still show up as a positive test.

I'm sure you know, but the guidance is to use contraception for 2 years if your periods stop before age 50. (ie last period ever at 48, contraception till 50.) After 50, it's 1 year of contraception.

I hope you find the answer and it's whatever you want.

I'm not sure they will do that with me. My doctors aren't very proactive. I've just done another test and the dating bit has gone up to 3+

You aren’t sure you had sex so I think it warrants being checked by your GP.

Keep us updated.

ChristmasFairyLiquid · 25/03/2025 15:06

I also think this would warrant a ‘professional’ test. All the best and I hope you get the answer you want.

Well last night I had pink spotting and today I've just started bleeding so even if I was pregnant looks like it's not going to stay that way.

Is it worth seeing your GP? You may need a scan.

LollyLand · 27/03/2025 10:11

I would still seek GP advice.

WHYohwhy12 · 31/03/2025 08:17

An update is anyone is interested. Bleeding a bit but still hasn't come to anything so waiting on a call back from the doctor
